Tip #27 From Mrs. Sunny

"Lead a life of JOY"

It's my goal to try and lead my life with JOY (Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last) . As long as I put Jesus first and show my love to others, my needs will be taken care of from above.

As Sunny knows, I'm not the most JOYFUL when I'm hungry or tired - that's an area I need to work on...but life still goes on and I do better the next day.

I don't know the last time I went to the mall, but we walked around as a family tonight. I went with Kathryne for a while in search for some shirts. Once in a while I do something for just myself. You can't forget about yourself when you're taking care of your kids!

I actually bought myself 5 shirts for $15. Yes, the "Queen of Thriftiness" bought NEW shirts. I could take the time to find nice clothes at garage sales - don't doubt it! But since I don't buy much for myself, a couple times a year I get some new clothes at a good price.

Sunny is better about getting things for me that he knows I like, but would never buy for myself. As much as I like baking cookies with the kids, he got me a big bucket of 101 cookie cutters with the alphabet, numbers, shapes, and holidays at the mall. I love how he knows me so well! That's what best friends are for!

Tip #26 From Mrs. Sunny

"There is such thing as a lucky day!"

This morning the four kids and I took a walk before it got too hot and I noticed a Little Tikes toddler slide on the side of the road for garbage pick-up today. Being the "Queen of Thriftiness", I knocked on the door to see if anyone was home. She was surprised to see me, but very willing to let me have it! It's a little twisted underneath, but very workable! You should have seen me pushing kids in a double stroller, my son walking beside and me with this huge Little Tikes slide walking down the sidewalk to our house. Must have been a sight - but what a lucky find! :)

Then as you all know, I have been wanting to try my own detergent. I haven't been able to find the A&H Washing Soda (not baking soda) at any store, so I looked online and found a number to call. They happened to have FREE shipping until the end of the month! What a lucky deal! So I ordered two.

Now this may be an unlucky happening, I was just at Hy-Vee picking up 20 Mule Team & Fels Naptha soap for the homemade detergent and found washing soda just hours after ordering online. (At least I didn't pay shipping) I remember checking Hy-Vee a couple months ago and I never saw it. Oh-well. I'll know for next time!

So my washing soda is being delivered to my parents' house in 7-10 days (because for some reason they couldn't verify our home address) - but in just over a week I'll have an update on the detergent finally! Yay! I'm excited! If anyone wants to be here when I make it, let me know! :)

Tip #25 From Mrs. Sunny

"Support your local farmer's market!"

The kids and I browsed through the farmer's market this morning while Sunny had a meeting and I decided I need to start going there first before I grocery shop! Especially once strawberries and corn on the cob are in season!

There was also a booth with homemade laundry detergent (which is still on my list of things to do...), homemade wooden toys and cloth books, and so much more! I loved it!

Check it out!

Tip #24 from Mrs. Sunny

"Being away from technology for a week and a half isn't as bad you think! "

Yesterday I realized it had been over a week since I was on the internet and I don't know how I didn't miss it! I've had friends post how they don't have time for Facebook and I always wondered how that was possible! There's always time to squeeze in a few minutes on the internet!

I'm sure I had time I was just keeping busy in other ways...Kathryne turned ONE on Wednesday(unreal!), Sunny and I were gone all last weekend giving talks for and Engaged Encounter Weekend and I've been keeping up with housework ever since!

Sunny and I had a great time on the Encounter Weekend. It was really strange being away from both kids for two nights! The only other time I've been away overnight was when I was in the hospital with Kathryne. So technically, it's been 2 1/2 years since Sunny and I had a night to ourselves!

Wow! No kids in the bed...need I say more! :) Hee hee...anyone who knew me before I met Sunny, he has sure opened up my sense of humor! I love you, honey - life wouldn't be the same without you!

Tip #22 & "23 From Mrs. Sunny

"Never give up and never say never!"

So my garden apparently wasn't a flop. I ended up trying seeds again and putting top soill on top and those little seedlings popped up! Apparently the roots won't have a problem with the clay in the soil!

And...drum roll please...Kathryne slept from 8:30-4:40 this morning! For a Sundstrom baby, that is "sleeping through the night"! I almost didn't want to write this for fear of jinxing this amazing milestone...

"Be thankful and appreciative of friends and family"

A friend of mine, Julie and her kids came over a couple nights ago. One of my few moments with adults during the week, which I always look forward to. My head was pounding from sinus problems (allergies? cold?) and she offered to watch the kids while I went to get medicine at the pharmacy. Thank you Julie - I feel much better!

I still don't have my voice back, though, and Josh and I are giving our talks this weekend at the Engaged Encounter...I'm hoping this goes away quickly. For one, I have always had a soft voice. Second, there will be no microphone...hmmm...we'll see how this goes.

Tip #21 From Mrs. Sunny

"Don't forget to call your mom tomorrow!"

Happy Mother's Day to all you mom's out there!

Sunny knows I don't need anything extreme for Mother's Day
or any holiday for that matter. All I ever need is some quality time with my family! We're planning on going to the museum for a train exhibit for National Train Day tomorrow and maybe see a baseball game if it's not raining.

I did get my present early - Sunny also knows I'm a practical shopper and I never buy anything for myself. He got me a cordless, rechargeable shaver for my legs. Which is ironic because of one of my later posts I talked about not taking the time to shave. I think this will help! :) I can use this one in the shower!

But don't forget to call your mother (and grandmothers for that matter) tomorrow! Tell them how much they mean to you!

Tip #20 From Mrs. Sunny

"Expect things to cost more than you think..."

So my garden is a flop this summer and I am upset! I turned that garden over 5 times by hand, had blisters that took weeks to heal - all to find out I will need to haul top soil in for anything to grow.

I didn't realize there was that much clay in our yard. We'll see if I spend the money to have dirt brought in from somewhere. If anyone has soil to get rid of - let me know! :)
